Midland College is proud to announce Isaac Fontenot-Amedee as the new head coach of the Chaparral men's basketball team. Fontenot-Amedee officially takes the helm after serving as interim head coach during the 2024-2025 season, leading the Chaps to an impressive 21-10 record and a trip to the NJCAA Region V Tournament. The team finished the season ranked No. 18 in the final NJCAA Division I national poll.

This contribution will support the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Midland College. The Teaching Excellence Awards are a long-standing tradition at Midland College to recognize, celebrate, and honor the exceptional accomplishments of the MC faculty. They are made possible by an endowment given to the college by Dr. Stan Jacobs, a retired associate vice president of instruction.

The Permian Basin is facing a critical workforce shortage in health care. With a growing population and expanding medical facilities, the demand for nurses, radiologic technologists, respiratory therapists, sonographers, and behavioral health specialists continues to outpace the supply of trained professionals. Local hospitals and clinics are struggling to fill positions, making it essential to invest in education and training programs that prepare students to enter the workforce quickly and competently.

Midland College is celebrating a remarkable achievement in nursing education, with the 2024 exam results showcasing the strength of its programs. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program achieved a perfect 100% pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), surpassing the national average of 88.35% and the Texas average of 92.9% (2023). This outstanding accomplishment highlights MC's dedication to preparing highly skilled nurses for the workforce.

The Midland College Board of Trustees unanimously approved placing a $450 million bond proposal on the May 2025 election ballot during their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The bond package aims to address critical campus improvements, including expanding career and technical education (CTE) space, enhancing campus facilities, and upgrading infrastructure for safety, security, and ease-of-use. This will be the first bond election for Midland College since 2005.

On Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, a group of 31 Midland College students traveled to Austin to participate in Community College Day at the Texas Capitol. The trip, led by MC Professor of Government and Director of the Honors Program Dr. Terry Gilmour and MC Associate Professor of Government/Political Science Ben Malone, provided students with a firsthand look at the legislative process and an opportunity to engage with state lawmakers.
